Day 18: Coral Reef Restoration

Coral Reef Alliance

The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) is dedicated to saving the world’s coral reefs by combining science, community partnerships, and conservation action. For nearly 30 years, CORAL has worked locally and globally to reduce pollution, strengthen marine protections, promote sustainable fishing, and help reefs adapt to climate change. Its approach emphasizes science-based solutions, local leadership, collaboration, resilience, and long-term protection of marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

Impact

  • CORAL helped actively manage about 2.2 million acres of marine area in 2025

  • Worked with 153 conservation partners

  • Partnered with 13 communities to keep wastewater pollution out of the ocean

  • Protected or strengthened protections for four important fish spawning sites

  • In one Honduras lagoon, fish biomass increased 70% following seasonal fishing protections
