Paws and Stripes

Paws and Stripes is an Albuquerque-based nonprofit that provides animal-assisted therapy, service dogs, and mental health services at no cost to military veterans and their families who are living with service-connected trauma. Founded in 2010, the organization helps veterans facing PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, military sexual trauma, depression, chronic pain, and other challenges reintegrating into civilian life. Its values include authenticity, integrity, respect, teamwork, and resilience, with a unique mission of “saving lives, two at a time” by pairing veterans with rescue dogs.

Impact

  • More than 100 service dogs have been provided to veterans with disabilities at no cost

  • 90% of its service dogs are rescue dogs

  • Has raised more than $10 million to support New Mexico veterans

  • Has more than 15 years of experience serving veteran families

  • Its service dog program is nationally accredited by Assistance Dogs International
